The revival of Silu Mahadev Temple in Bhaktapur Darbar square, Nepal.
Mahadev who couldn't stand the taste of the poison of the sea, quenched his thirst by drinking the cold water from Gosaikunda (a lake in Nepal) and was given the name 'Silu Mahadev'. Every year thousands of people come here to pay their respects on Ekadashi. This Silu Mahadev was founded in Bhaktpur in 9th century during the reign of king Jitamitra Malla.
When I visited Nepal, only the plinth of this temple was remaining due to a recent earthquake, so I started researching about it. To find that it was not fallen once but twice in an earthquake. Originally it was the tallest temple in Bhaktpur till the destruction in 1934 earthquake. People began to call it 'Fasideg' (pumpkin-shaped) after it's reconstruction as a dome structure. Until it fell again in another earthquake. Today the temple is under construction after the earthquake of 2015.
We recreated it going back to the original form while doing the digital revival of this temple. The original style of the Shikhar of this temple resembles the Nagara Shikhar back in India, different than Nepal style of temple architecture which is more earthquake resistant.
