Mahadev who couldn't stand the taste of the poison of the sea, quenched his thirst by drinking the cold water from Gosaikunda (a lake in Nepal) and was given the name 'Silu Mahadev'. Every year thousands of people come here to pay their respects on Ekadashi. This Silu Mahadev was founded in Bhaktpur in 9th century during the reign of king Jitamitra Malla.
It was the tallest temple in Bhaktpur till the destruction in 1934 earthquake, people began to call it 'Fasideg' (pumpkin-shaped) after it's reconstruction as a dome structure. Today the temple is under construction after the earthquake of 2015.
