When the Japanese mend broken objects, they aggrandize the damage by filling the cracks with gold. They believe that when something's suffered damage and has a history it becomes more beautiful.
Gaja: Sarnath has a large collection of sculptures, King Ashoka was the one to use stone for scriptures. Animals like bulls, lions, elephants and horses are often carved to symbolise different aspects. The sculptures of animals are represented naturalistically, full of life, you can tell that they have been keenly and lovingly observed.
